Sales Averages up at the East Texas
Easter Spectacular & Ranch Gelding Sale!
 The
sun was shining, the temperature was warming up and so were
the prices at the East Texas Easter Spectacular & Ranch
Gelding Sale which was held on March 12 – 14 in Lufkin,
Texas. According to Mike Pedersen (new owner ) of Havard
Sales Management, the three day sale featured a good
selection of ropers, reiners, cutters, ranch horses, barrel
racers and runners. A total of 410 buyers registered which
represented 17 states plus Canada and Mexico. It seems with
the new year and warmer weather came newfound optimism and
people were ready to spend some money and buy the good ones.
Friday included a demonstration followed by the sale of
ranch geldings. Saturday was the mixed quarter & paint
session which included a near dispersal of Ms. Bonnie
Latham’s Lazy L Quarter Horses. Sunday was a special barrel
and running bred sale and was highlighted by a partial
dispersal of 31 head from Mr. Kenneth and Mrs. Jackie
Sessions.
Of the 424 head to enter the sale ring, 351 were sold for a
sale percentage of 83%. The top five sellers averaged
$15,300; top 10 averaged $11.590; top 20 averaged $9,190;
top 50 averaged $6,237; top 100 averaged $4,489 and the
overall average for the 351 head was $1,924. The high seller
for the weekend was hip # 168 Shiners Leo Lena – a finished
reiner, cow horse and team roper with performance ROM. This
flashy 10 year old palomino stallion by Shining Spark was
out of the Doc O’Lena mare Lucky Leo Lena and drew a final
selling price of $25,000. He was consigned by J & J Farms
from Marion, Kentucky and was purchased by Frances Todaro
from Winona, Texas.
We are currently gearing up for our East Texas Summer
Sensational Ranch Gelding Competition and Mixed Sale which
will be held June 11 – 13 at the George H. Henderson Expo
Center in Lufkin. This sale will be open to horses of all
disciplines but will feature a Ranch Gelding Competition in
which the contestants will be competing for $15,000 in cash
& prizes. The consignment deadline for this sale will be May
